97 Yr Old Physician's formula for life reported by Judit Kawaguchi of the Japan Times is a good read for retirees. See what the good doctor says about retirement, it supports our case to have the UN extend the retirement age beyond the ridiculously low tiers of 60 and 62. The good doctor says: "There is no need to ever retire, but if one must, it should be a lot later than 65."
This appeared in an AFICS magazine some time ago:
WISDOM OF THE AGES
"My dear Laelius and Scipio, we must stand up against old age and make up for its drawbacks by taking pains. We must fight it as we should an illness. We must look after our health, use moderate exercise, just take enough food and drink to recover, but not overload our strength. Nor is the body alone that must be supported, but the intellect and soul much more. For they are like lamps, unless you feed them with oil, they too go out from old age....The fact is that old age is respectable as long as it asserts itself, maintains its property rights, and it is not enslaved to anyone. For as I admire a young man who has something of the old man in him, so do I an old one who has something of a young man. The man who aims at this possibly become old in body - in mind he never will." Cicero "Old Age" (c. 65 BCE)
